How to install IPTV on Firestick in Ireland

A complete walkthrough for Fire TV Stick, Stick 4K and 4K Max — enabling developer options, installing a player, entering your credentials and getting the programme guide working. Written for Fire OS 7 and 8.

What you'll need

Four things. If you already have an active subscription or trial line, you have everything except possibly the storage space.

Your IPTV credentialsUsername, password and server URL. We send these on WhatsApp when you subscribe or request a trial.
A Fire TV Stick on Wi-FiAny generation. The 4K and 4K Max handle heavy 4K channels more comfortably than the basic Stick.
Around 500 MB free storageA Fire TV Stick has roughly 5 GB usable. If yours is full, uninstall a game or two before starting.
10 Mbps for HD, 25 Mbps for 4KMeasured at the Firestick, not at your router. Test in the evening — that's when Irish lines are most contended.
Not sure which route to take? If TiviMate or IPTV Smarters appears in your Amazon Appstore, install it there and skip to Step 4 — it's simpler and it updates automatically. Steps 1 to 3 are only needed when the app isn't available in the store for your region.

STEP BY STEP

Six steps to watching

1

Unlock Developer Options

On Fire OS 7 and 8, Developer Options is hidden until you enable it. Amazon changed this in 2022, which is why older guides tell you to look for a menu that isn't there.

SettingsMy Fire TVAbout
  • Highlight your device name at the top of the About screen — don't open it
  • Press the Select button seven times in a row
  • A message reads "You are now a developer"
  • Press Back once and Developer Options now appears in the My Fire TV menu

2

Install the Downloader app

Downloader is a free, Amazon-approved browser that lets you install apps from a web address. It's in the official Appstore, so nothing unusual happens here.

HomeFindSearch"Downloader"
  • Pick the orange icon by AFTVnews — several apps share the name
  • Select Get or Download and wait for it to install
  • Open it once and accept the storage permission prompt

3

Allow Downloader to install apps

Fire OS blocks installs from outside the Appstore until you grant permission per app. You're allowing Downloader specifically, not opening the device up generally.

SettingsMy Fire TVDeveloper OptionsInstall unknown apps
  • Find Downloader in the list and switch it to ON
  • On some older builds the setting is a single toggle called Apps from Unknown Sources
  • Leave every other app switched off
Turn this back off when you're finished. It costs you nothing — the player stays installed and keeps working — and it stops anything else installing silently later.
4

Install your player app

The player is what actually displays the channels. We supply the subscription; the player is separate third-party software, and you can use whichever you prefer.

PlayerBest forNotes
TiviMateBest overall experienceCleanest guide layout and recording. Free version covers most needs.
IPTV Smarters ProSimplest to set upXtream Codes login in one screen. Good starting point.
Smarters Player LiteOlder or basic FiresticksLighter on memory when the device struggles.
  • Open Downloader and select the URL box
  • Enter the official website address of the player you chose and press Go
  • When the file finishes downloading, select Install, then Done
  • Choose Delete to remove the installer file and free up the space
Only download from the developer's own site. Third-party APK mirrors are the most common way Firesticks pick up unwanted software, and a modified player can behave badly regardless of how good your subscription is.
5

Enter your IPTV credentials

Open the player and choose to add a playlist. You'll be asked for one of two formats — use Xtream Codes if the app offers it, because it pulls the programme guide across automatically.

  • Type the details exactly as we sent them — they are case-sensitive
  • Include http:// and the port number in the server URL if it was supplied
  • Give it a name you'll recognise, then select Add or Next
  • Channels take up to a minute to load the first time

6

Set the guide and time zone

The last step is what separates a working setup from a good one. Getting the time zone right is what makes the seven-day guide line up with what's actually on.

  • In the player settings, set the time zone to GMT / Europe – Dublin
  • Enable Automatic EPG update so listings refresh daily
  • If the guide is empty, allow up to fifteen minutes for the first sync
  • Reorder or hide channel groups so the ones you watch sit at the top
Worth doing while you're in there: turn off any "auto-play on channel change" setting. On a Firestick it causes the player to buffer while you're browsing the guide, which feels like a stream problem but isn't.
FIXES
TROUBLESHOOTING

If something isn't right

Four issues account for almost every Firestick support message we receive. Three of them are the device rather than the stream.

"App not installed"

Almost always storage. Go to Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications and clear the cache on a few large apps, or uninstall one. A Firestick needs roughly 500 MB free to install a player.

Buffering on 4K channels

Try HD on the same channel first. If HD is smooth, it's bandwidth rather than the server. Move to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, or use an ethernet adapter — a wired Firestick is dramatically more stable than a wireless one.

Guide is empty or wrong

Check the time zone is set to Europe – Dublin. A guide offset by exactly one hour is nearly always a time-zone setting, not a data problem. Then force an EPG refresh in the player settings.

Everything is slow and stuttery

Firesticks degrade when left running for weeks. Unplug it for thirty seconds and plug it back in. Doing this weekly prevents most performance complaints, particularly on the older non-4K models.

Still stuck? Message us on WhatsApp with what you're seeing. If the issue is on our side we'll fix it; if it's device-side we'll talk you through it anyway. Support during a free trial is the same as for a paid line.
FAQ
COMMON QUESTIONS

Firestick questions

No. Nothing in this guide modifies Fire OS. You are enabling a built-in developer setting that Amazon provides, then installing an app. The device keeps all its normal functions and updates.

The Fire TV Stick 4K Max handles heavy 4K channels most comfortably, thanks to more memory and Wi-Fi 6. The standard 4K model is fine for most viewing. The basic non-4K Stick works but can stutter on the highest-bitrate streams.

IPTV Smarters is quicker to set up and better for a first install. TiviMate has a cleaner guide, better channel management and recording, so most people move to it eventually. Both work identically with your credentials.

Not usually. Most Irish connections stream fine without one. A VPN can help if your provider throttles video traffic at peak times, but set up without it first so you can see how your line performs normally.

Yes, but a 1-device plan allows one stream at a time. You can move between the Firestick and a phone freely — just close one before opening the other. For simultaneous viewing you need a 2-device plan.

Yes. Fire OS updates leave installed apps and their settings alone. Occasionally an update resets the Install unknown apps toggle, which only matters if you later need to install something else.
